Configuring to Run As A Service

Below are instructions on how to configure Symphony AC to run as a service and how to remove the Symphony AC Windows Service.

Prerequisites:

  • Symphony AC Server
  • Windows login account with local admin rights
  • At least one (1) Symphony AC Client License

A. Configuring Symphony AC to Run as a Windows Service

  1. Log in to the Symphony AC Server computer.
  2. If the Symphony AC application is open, close the Symphony AC application.
  3. Open the Symphony AC installation folder (Typically “C:\Program Files (x86)\Symphony AC”) and open the “Configuration” application:
    • In the Running as a Service section, enter the following:
    • Running as a Service: Check the box so it reads “True”
    • AutoLogon: Check the box so that it reads “True”
    • AutoLogon Operator: enter a Symphony AC User with the “Admin” profile
    • Autologon Password: enter the operator password.


  1. Click the “Save Changes” button. The “Configuration” window will close and you will get a message that states “Senstar Corporation-Symphony AC Service Installed Successfully”.


  1. Open Windows Services (Senstar recommends that you create a shortcut for this on the desktop or Pin it to the Windows Taskbar) and select the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” Service.


  1. Open the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” Service properties window by clicking on the “Properties” button OR right-clicking and selecting “Properties”.


  1. The Properties window will open, please enter the following:
  • General Tab:
    • Startup Type:
      • If using MS Access Database, select “Automatic” if using MS Access Database.
      • If using SQL Database, select “Automatic (Delayed Start)”.


  • Log On Tab:
    • Select “This account” and enter the credentials for the Windows User currently logged in to the server.


  • Recovery Tab (optional):
    • First Failure: Select “Restart the Service”
    • Second failure: Select “Restart the Service”
    • Subsequent failures: Select “Restart the Service”


Click the “Apply” button and then the “OK” button.


  1. Start the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” (i.e. Click the “Start Service” button OR right-click and select “Start”). All other Symphony AC Drivers will start.


  1. To stop the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service, click on the “Stop Service” button or you can right-click and select “Stop Service”. All Symphony AC Drivers will stop after.



NOTES:

  • If you need to start or stop the Symphony AC system, you MUST start/stop it from Windows Services.
  • If the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service won’t start (or does start but immediately stops), remove the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service and make sure the Symphony AC username and password entered for the Auto log on are correct.
  • If you need to open the Graphical User Interface (GUI) on the Symphony AC Server, make sure that the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service is running (if you have Windows Services window open, hit the “Refresh” button to update the status of all Windows Services). Then click on the Symphony AC desktop shortcut. If you don’t see a shortcut, you can open the Symphony AC application located in the Symphony AC installation folder. (Typically “C:\Program Files (x86)\Symphony AC”)
  • If you open the Graphical User Interface (GUI) on the Symphony AC Server WITHOUT having the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service running, then you WON’T be able to start the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service. You will have to close the GUI, open Windows Task Manger and verify that the Symphony AC application is not running (process name: Symphony AC.exe). If there is an Symphony AC application running, end the Task. Afterwards, go to Windows Services and start the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service.
  • The “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service MUST be running in order for Symphony AC clients to connect.

B. Removing the Symphony AC Windows Service

  1. Open Windows Services and stop the “Senstar Corporation- Symphony AC” service (i.e. click on the “Stop Service” button or you can right-click and select “Stop Service”). All Symphony AC Drivers will stop.


  1. Close the Windows Services Window.
  2. Open the Symphony AC installation folder. (Typically “C:\Program Files (x86)\Symphony AC”)
  3. Open the “Configuration” application.
  4. In the “Running as a Service” sub menu, complete the following: (See Figure 13)
    • Running as a Service: Uncheck the box so it reads “False”
    • AutoLogon: You can leave as true to enable auto log on or uncheck the box to disable it
    • AutoLogon Operator: enter a Symphony AC User with the “Admin” profile
    • Autologon Password: enter the user’s password

6. Click the “Save” button. The “Configuration” window will close and you will get a message that states “Senstar Corporation-Symphony AC Service Uninstalled Successfully”.
