How to set Axis and Vivotek video encoders for PTZ control

Solution

Axis

1. In a web browser, enter the IP address of your camera. The camera interface opens.
2. Click Setup, and then in the sidebar click System Options.
3. Click Ports & Devices.
4. Select the port you are using (RS232 or RS485)
5. Set Port Usage on the device to Generic HTTP.
6. In Symphony Client when adding the device:
   1. Select the PTZ check box
   2. From the PTZ Type drop-down list, select the brand.
   3. Select the Address and Control Port.
      
      For an Axis 241Q the COM ports are:
      • RS232 = COM1
      • RS485 = COM2
      

Vivotek

1. In a web browser, enter the IP address of your camera. The camera interface opens.
2. Set up ports.
3. In Symphony Client, when adding the device, select the PTZ check box. No other settings are required.
