What is Lifecycle Software?

The surveillance market is currently experiencing a technology migration shift in addition to the move from analog to IP. Depending on the end-user customers’ security and surveillance requirements, there is already a significant portion of the market that is transitioning beyond simply IP:

Analog to IP
IP to Intelligent Video
Intelligent Video to Business Intelligence

It’s important that system integrators propose video management software that matches their customers’ evolving needs throughout their ‘lifecycle’. The immediate need may be to transition from Analog to an IP Video Surveillance infrastructure, but down the road they may require virtual fence or object left behind analytics; with a future option for Business Intelligence applications.

Business Intelligence applications utilize video surveillance data for non-surveillance purposes and use this information to drive operational efficiencies within the infrastructure. Analytics such as people counting and dwell time enable customers to make real-time business decisions to optimize their operations based on data that was never available before through video. Consider retail owners that are interested in determining how many customers come in to their store on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, what time of the day do they come in, which parts of the store customers go to and how long their customers stay in those areas? Not only does the video data enable them to decide on how much staff to schedule during peak times, but ideally the best staff to have working during those hours – information that has not been made available to them previously through their video software.

From the end-customer’s standpoint, they are looking for video software solutions that are ‘future-proof’. Customers require solutions that meet their needs not only today but also provide flexibility for future needs, even if in some cases, they may not even know what those potential requirements may be. They are putting the onus on the system integrator to ensure that they will not be limited in their ability to migrate to an open system. From a system integrator perspective, Lifecycle Software such as the Aimetis Symphony, enables them to retain the customer throughout their technology migration path by providing a video software solution that meet their needs and capture the upsell opportunities along the way.
